The BDP-103D plays SACD and DVD-Audio discs. It's got dual HDMI inputs, so you can use the BDP-103D's internal upconverter/scaler to improve the image of your other sources.
4K Upconversion
One of the other cool features of the BDP-103D is the ability to upconvert to 3,820×2,160, or Ultra HD "4K." There are many new TVs shipping with this next-gen resolution that's 4 times the resolution of your current TV. Being able to convert xxxxp Blu-rays to 2,160p is no easy task, and how well the source (or your TV) does it, will largely determine the picture quality of your 4K TV. In the early days of xxxxp, there were upconverting DVD players that did a better job "adding" resolution to DVDs than the TVs themselves.
Darbee
The biggest difference with the BDP-103D over its Oppo siblings and other Blu-ray players is the addition of Darbee processing. Darbee takes a normal image, and adds a perceptual increase in detail. The actual resolution stays the same, but it appears sharper. The image does indeed look sharper. It's not subtle. Most people love it. Including it on a player like this makes it easier to implement into a system.
Beyond simple Blu-ray playback and Internet streaming (which almost all BD players can do), the BDP-103D adds several features to help you get the most out of your A/V system. The Darbee processing especially is something a lot of people love. With the move towards 4K TVs, the scaling in this BD player might be better than what's in the next 4K TV you buy (that depends on the TV).
